The short version: we store the messages we relay and a little context about the visitor, because the product cannot work without them. We do not sell data, we run no ad trackers, and the Telegram session used during setup is never stored.
Who this covers
Two kinds of people use Bantergram. Customers are the site owners who sign up and add the widget. Visitors are the people who chat through a widget on a customer's site. Both are covered here.
What we store about customers
- Your email address, a hashed password, your language and your plan.
- Each site you add: its address, name, widget settings and group icon.
- The id and invite link of the Telegram group we set up for that site.
What we store about visitors
- The messages and attachments relayed in both directions: text, photos, files and voice notes.
- The page they are on, the page that referred them, their device and browser, screen size, time zone and language.
- Their country, worked out from the IP address of the connection.
- Their email address, only if they choose to give it.
- A random visitor id kept in their browser, so a returning visitor lands in the same conversation.
That context is posted as a card in the Telegram topic, so the person answering knows where the visitor is on the site.
The Telegram setup session
To build your group we open a temporary Telegram Web session in an isolated browser on our server. You approve it by scanning a QR code with your phone. We use it for one job: create the group, switch on topics, add the bot.
When that job finishes, or fails, or times out, we sign the session out and destroy the browser. The session is never written to disk or to our database. We never see your Telegram password, and we do not read your contacts or your other chats.
What passes through Telegram
Visitor messages are posted into your Telegram group by our bot, and your replies in that group are sent back to the widget. The bot can read messages in the livechat group only. Anything posted in the group is also held by Telegram under Telegram's own privacy policy.
How long we keep it
- Free plan: conversation history is kept for 14 days.
- Pro plan: 1 year.
- Business plan: until you delete it.
Deleting a site removes its conversations and files from our servers. Copies in your Telegram group stay there until you delete them in Telegram.
Where it lives
Data sits in a database and on disk on servers we run ourselves. Uploaded files are served through signed links, and the bot token never reaches a browser.
Cookies and browser storage
No advertising cookies and no third-party analytics. We use browser storage to keep you signed in and to remember your language. The widget uses it to remember the visitor's conversation. Fonts on this site are loaded from Google Fonts.
Who else is involved
- Telegram, to deliver messages to your group.
- An email provider, for account emails such as confirmation and password reset.
- Stripe, once card billing is switched on. Card numbers will go to Stripe and never to us.
AI addons, when they ship, will be off until you switch them on, and each will say exactly what it processes before you can do that.
Your choices
Customers can delete a site, or ask us to delete the whole account, by writing to hello@bantergram.com. Visitors can ask the site they chatted with, or write to us, and we will help find and remove the conversation.
If you run the widget on your site, mention the livechat in your own privacy notice. You decide what you ask visitors, and you are responsible for how you use what they tell you.
